[Financial News] A joint air training involving a US B-52H strategic bomber, South Korea's KF-16 fighter jets, and Japan's F-2 fighter jets was conducted over the international waters south of Jeju Island.
The deployment of the US strategic bomber to the Korean Peninsula was the first since the B-1B on April 15, approximately three months ago, and the trilateral air training of the US, South Korea, and Japan was the first since June 18 over the international waters south of Jeju, approximately one month ago.
According to the Ministry of Defense on the 11th, the training conducted on the day the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea, the US, and Japan gathered in Seoul was aimed at enhancing the deterrence and response capabilities of the three countries against the escalating nuclear and missile threats from North Korea.
The Ministry of Defense further emphasized, "The three countries, South Korea, the US, and Japan, will continue trilateral training based on close cooperation to deter North Korean threats and jointly respond."
Prior to this training, Kim Myung-soo, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Kane, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Yoshida Yoshihide, Chief of Staff of the Japan Joint Staff, held a Tri-CHOD meeting at the Joint Chiefs of Staff building in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
