Visit to Yongsan Shantytown for Emergency Inspection
[Financial News] Vice Minister of Planning and Finance 2, Im Gi-geun, emphasized on the 11th that "the energy voucher should be a tangible help to vulnerable groups during severe heatwaves and should be executed quickly and efficiently."
Vice Minister Im visited a shantytown in Yongsan, Seoul on this day to meet residents vulnerable to heatwaves and to inspect whether the government's energy welfare measures are operating as 'tangible support'.
The government has shifted from providing energy vouchers in summer and winter installments to a lump-sum annual support amount starting this year, allowing recipients to concentrate their use during heatwaves.
To prevent situations where recipients are unaware of the voucher issuance or do not use it due to lack of knowledge on how to use it, the government plans to maximize support effects by frequently checking usage and guiding unused households via text or mail, and if necessary, having postal workers or social workers visit residences directly.
Vice Minister Im emphasized, "In conditions where weather predictions are becoming increasingly difficult due to abnormal climate, the most affected groups are those with difficult living conditions," adding, "It is important that the allocated budget is used on-site, so mobilizing administrative capabilities such as postal workers, social workers, text, and mail to ensure it is used without blind spots on-site is crucial."
