[Financial News] The Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor team (Special Prosecutor Lee Myung-hyun) has launched a raid on former President Yoon Seok-yeol and former National Security Office Chief Cho Tae-yong for the so-called VIP Fury Theory investigation.
The Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor team announced on the 11th that they are conducting raids on more than 10 locations, including the residences and offices of former President Yoon and former Chief Cho, who are accused of abuse of power and obstruction of the exercise of rights, as well as the residence and office of Im Jong-deuk, a member of the People Power Party who was the second deputy director of the National Security Office at the time.
Special Prosecutor Jeong Min-young stated, "Currently, discussions are taking place between former President Yoon's legal representatives and the special prosecutor team on the first floor of Acro Vista, where former President Yoon resides," adding, "Former President Yoon is accused as a suspect for having deferred and retrieved the transfer of the initial investigation records related to Sergeant Chae Sang-byeong and for altering the investigation results."
He continued, "We expect to be able to discuss after analyzing the mobile phones and other items secured from the raids," adding, "Nothing specific has been discussed yet."
The VIP Fury Theory is the suspicion that former President Yoon, after receiving a report on the initial investigation results of the Marine Corps investigation team at a presidential office meeting on the morning of July 31, 2023, 'furiously' remarked, "If you punish the division commander for such a matter, who would be able to serve as a division commander?" and subsequently deferred the police transfer and altered the Marine Corps investigation team's results.
As former Chief Cho was a participant in the meeting with former President Yoon at the time, the special prosecutor team plans to delve into whether former President Yoon was involved. The special prosecutor team also conducted raids on former Chief Cho's office, the Ministry of National Defense, the National Security Office, and former Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop the previous day, successfully seizing former Chief Cho's mobile phone in the process.
Meanwhile, the special prosecutor team plans to summon Kim Tae-hyo, the former first deputy director of the National Security Office, for questioning at 3 p.m. today. As Kim was a participant in the chief secretary meeting presided over by the presidential office on July 31, 2023, the special prosecutor team plans to question △the content reported to former President Yoon △the instructions given by former President Yoon △the involvement of the presidential office and related agencies after the meeting.
With the special prosecutor team launching all-out raids on the Ministry of National Defense and related agencies and individuals, including former President Yoon, they are focusing on uncovering the truth behind the VIP Fury Theory. As the rebellion special prosecutor team has successfully secured former President Yoon's custody, attention is on whether the Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor team can collaborate with the rebellion special prosecutor team under their cooperation.
