[Financial News] As the summer heatwave continues, national public institutions managing Busan Port have stepped up to enhance safety management for port workers.
Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries and Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced on the 11th that they will operate 'Port Safety Culture Week' for five days from the 14th to the 18th, conducting various safety activities.

Port Safety Culture Week is operated annually to spread safety culture at port sites and raise safety awareness among stakeholders, in accordance with the Port Safety Special Act enacted in 2022.
This year's week begins on the first day, the 14th, with a disaster prevention seminar for port safety stakeholders at Busan BEXCO. Following this, joint inspections and safety campaigns will be conducted with related organizations and groups in the port safety field for four days from the 15th.
The disaster prevention seminar will provide guidance on symptoms and first aid measures for heat-related illnesses that may occur within the port. It will also include presentations on last year's major port safety incidents and prevention measures, as well as the government's direction for this year's port safety policies.
The campaign starting on the 15th will involve government departments, public institutions, and organizations related to port transportation businesses pledging to prevent port safety accidents and distributing heat-related illness prevention supplies during the hot season.
Kim Hong-won, head of the Port Logistics Division at Busan Maritime Affairs, stated, "With the recent heatwave continuing and typhoons and other storm and flood disasters expected to concentrate in the future, it is necessary to ensure the safety of port workers during the summer," adding, "We hope this Safety Culture Week will lead to practical accident prevention activities centered on port site workers."
BPA's Kim Hyo-seok, head of the Disaster Safety Office, urged, "In port sites where the work intensity is high, heat-related illnesses can lead to fatal disasters," and "Therefore, stakeholders responsible for on-site management should pay special attention and actively implement preventive measures."
