The government has embarked on an emergency inspection of overall child safety measures, including minimizing care blind spots, to prevent a recurrence of incidents like the child fire death accident in a Busan apartment.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety held an emergency inspection meeting of related agencies on child safety measures on the 11th, presided over by Gwang-yong Kim, head of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters, to review improvement plans for care services and child safety measures by sector.
The meeting was convened following recent child fatalities in apartment fires, in response to President Jae-myung Lee's directive to "inspect overall child safety measures, including minimizing care blind spots."
At the meeting, related agencies centered on the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family discussed improvement plans for care services, including expanding care during late-night hours, alleviating the burden on low-income users, and operating 24-hour regional child centers.
They also reviewed safety measures by sector to prepare for various risks that may occur to children.
Gwang-yong Kim, head of the headquarters, stated, "To protect children who find it difficult to cope with accidents on their own, we need to more thoroughly supplement the safety management system," adding, "As summer vacation approaches, when children spend more time alone, the government will continue to improve child safety measures and thoroughly inspect the implementation status."
