The route in question is operated by bus number 202-1, which starts at Gyeongpo Beach and passes through Gangneung Intercity and Express Bus Terminal, downtown, and Gangneung Station, returning to Gyeongpo Beach. This route is particularly popular among tourists traveling from Gangneung Station to Gyeongpo Beach.
According to last year's bus usage analysis, route 202-1 was the most used during the summer season.
In particular, the number of users in August last year was 39,366, an increase of about 151% compared to 15,693 users in March, indicating a significant rise in summer tourism demand.
Gangneung City expects this increase to not only improve transportation convenience for Gyeongpo Beach visitors but also help alleviate summer traffic congestion.
Additionally, the city plans to strengthen driver courtesy training, conduct safety inspections of city buses in preparation for heatwaves, and strive to create a safe and pleasant public transportation environment during the summer.
Gang Sun-won, head of Gangneung City's Transportation Division, said, "We will do our best to ensure that all citizens and tourists visiting Gyeongpo Beach during the summer vacation can use the city buses safely and conveniently," adding, "We will continue to actively work on promoting public transportation to alleviate traffic congestion and revitalize the local economy."
