[Financial News] The Busan Police Agency announced on the 11th that Suyeong Police Station, the 16th police station in the Busan area, will open on the 5th of next month.
The Busan area police stations have been operating with 15 stations, one less than the city's basic local governments, causing a mismatch between administrative districts and police jurisdictions. However, with the opening of Suyeong Police Station, each district and county will have one station operating.
Suyeong District is an area with a large crowd due to tourist attractions such as Gwangalli Beach, yet it did not have an independent police station.
Gwangalli-dong and Namcheon-dong were under the jurisdiction of the Southern Police Station, while Suyeong District and Mangmi-dong were under the jurisdiction of the Yeonje Police Station. This caused residents to sometimes be unaware of their jurisdictional police station, and the district office faced inconveniences when coordinating security matters with two police stations.
With the new opening of Suyeong Police Station, it is expected to take full charge of the district's security, resolving these inconveniences.
The first head of Suyeong Police Station will be Kim Hak-jin, the head of the Suyeong Station Preparation Team (Superintendent) from the Busan Police Agency. The police station will be located around Suyeong-dong Suyeong Historical Park (Gyeongsang Jwasuyeong Fortress site).
Suyeong Station was approved for establishment by the government and the National Assembly in 2014, and the construction plan was established at the end of 2016. It was completed last month after breaking ground in May 2023, nine years after approval. The scale is 7 floors above ground with a site area of approximately 8,242㎡ and a building area of approximately 1,578㎡.
The newly organized Suyeong Police Station will consist of a total of 8 departments with a staff of 421. However, due to a shortage of available personnel, there may be vacancies in some department organization charts (T·O), according to the police.
A Busan Police Agency official said, “The members of Suyeong Police Station will start normal duty from the morning of the opening day, and an opening ceremony is scheduled for 2 PM,” adding, “With the opening of Suyeong Station, the administrative district and security jurisdiction will align, leading to the unification of administrative and security systems, and it is expected that Busan's security service will improve.”
