Plans to Enhance by Year-End Based on Demonstration Results
[Financial News] The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) announced on the 11th that it held a demonstration initiation meeting for the 'Electric Vehicle Safety Evaluation and Integrated Safety Technology Development' project at the Haeundae Inspection Center on the 10th, aimed at strengthening electric vehicle safety management and establishing a future-oriented inspection system.
This demonstration was promoted to improve the field applicability of electric vehicle inspection techniques and equipment, which are the outcomes of a national research and development project. The target is electric vehicles due for regular inspection.
TS is conducting a research and development project to switch from visual and auditory inspection methods to measurement and analysis methods to ensure the safety management of high-voltage batteries, which are key components of electric vehicles.
The inspection equipment used in the demonstration research includes three types: △Charging port insulation resistance automatic inspection equipment △Low-noise vehicle warning sound device inspection equipment △Battery safety and performance inspection equipment.
The charging port insulation resistance automatic inspection equipment can inspect the charging port insulation resistance of all registered electric vehicles in Korea, including Tesla. For the low-noise vehicle warning sound device inspection equipment, it measures noise and analyzes it with dB and frequency bands to inspect the performance aging of the low-noise vehicle warning sound device.
The battery safety and performance inspection equipment can inspect major battery inspection items in actual driving conditions and check battery performance without removing the battery pack using the AC impedance method.
TS plans to conduct demonstration research on electric vehicles visiting the Haeundae Inspection Center until December this year, and seek ways to enhance the developed inspection equipment and techniques based on the demonstration results. Based on this, they plan to propose a revision (draft) of the enforcement regulations on electric vehicle inspection methods under the Automobile Management Act.
Chairman Jeong Yong-sik stated, "There is active international discussion on the necessity of electric vehicle inspection and inspection research," and "We will make further efforts to establish a scientific inspection system prioritizing public safety in line with rapidly changing automotive development trends."
