[Financial News] The Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity (WISET) announced on the 11th that it will operate the '2025 WISET Female Student Engineering Week' for female middle and high school students nationwide from the 12th to the 31st.
WISET Female Student Engineering Week is held with the support of the Lottery Fund and the Science and Technology Promotion Fund, contributing to the development of national science and technology and the promotion of public value.
The Engineering Week is hosted by WISET and organized by the R-WeSET regional project groups in four regions nationwide (Daegyeong-Gangwon, Southeast, Chungcheong, Honam-Jeju). It has been operated annually since 2012 to encourage female students to explore and enter STEM fields.
At 10 universities nationwide, programs such as 'Regional Science Travel: Finding Hidden Science and Technology!' will be conducted, featuring experiences and practices on future promising science and technology, special lectures, and mentoring. The programs are conducted both online and offline, and any female student can participate for free.
Main regional events include △Departmental lab tours such as Chemical Engineering (Daegyeong-Gangwon) △Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology research facility tours and career concerts (Southeast) △Medical Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Engineering major experiences (Chungcheong) △Electric Vehicle Engineering Exploration Contest (Honam-Jeju), etc.
In particular, this Engineering Week plans to encourage female students' entry into STEM fields by providing group transportation to minimize isolated areas and expanding online mentoring.
WISET Chairperson Moon Aeri stated, “For female students to enter STEM fields, practical experience and positive motivation regarding career paths are needed from school days,” and added, “WISET will continue to expand opportunities for anyone to easily approach engineering fields regardless of region, and will expand various experience-centered STEM programs nationwide so that female students can discover their potential.”
