[Financial News] Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) announced on the 11th that it selected the 'Braille Block Improvement for the Safety and Convenience of the Visually Impaired' as the best idea in the public contest for the Planning-Type Mobility Regulatory Sandbox.
This idea allows the use of curved and triangular dot blocks in addition to the existing square braille blocks. It received high marks for safety and specificity.
TS conducted the 'Planning-Type Mobility Regulatory Sandbox Public Contest' to directly receive mobility innovation and improvement ideas from the public to create a mobility environment that the public can feel.
The Planning-Type Mobility Regulatory Sandbox is a system where the regulatory sandbox operator proactively discovers regulations that the public feels on-site.
The contest was conducted in the fields of 'innovation' and 'improvement', and a total of 117 proposals were received. TS selected one grand prize project and four excellent projects based on safety, specificity, feasibility, and business scalability.
In the innovation field, the excellent projects selected were the AI-based real-time variable road parking/loading space operation and the autonomous walking aid sharing idea. In the improvement field, the excellent projects selected were the automatic notification to guardians and support for safe return home in case of route deviation or no response during outings of dementia patients, and the real-time adjustment of bus dispatch intervals according to congestion.
TS plans to award the TS President's Award and prizes worth 1 million KRW and 500,000 KRW to the proposers of the selected grand prize and excellent projects, respectively. Additionally, a corporate contest will be held later to promote demonstration projects based on the ideas selected as excellent projects.
TS will continue to operate various systems to enable the public to directly participate in regulatory innovation in the mobility field and promote a field-centered, effective mobility regulatory sandbox.
President Jeong Yong-sik said, "TS will continue to reflect the voices of the field and the public in policies to create a safer and more convenient mobility environment."
