【Financial News Incheon=Reporter Han Gap-soo】 While on a business trip to the United States, Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok of Incheon signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Delta Air Lines, a leading American airline, for mutual cooperation in revitalizing the tourism industry and discussed exchange and cooperation plans with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.
Incheon City announced on the 11th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Delta Air Lines on the 10th (local time) for mutual cooperation in revitalizing the tourism industry.
The purpose of this memorandum of understanding is to strengthen the global aviation network connecting Incheon and the Americas and to establish a strategic foundation for Incheon to become a major tourism hub city in Asia.
According to the memorandum of understanding, Incheon City and Delta Air Lines will strengthen strategic cooperation in various fields, such as expanding direct flight routes between Incheon and major cities in the United States, joint promotion for attracting overseas tourists, and global marketing initiatives.
The city plans to fully launch a campaign to attract tourists targeting the Americas by utilizing Delta Air Lines' network of major hub cities in the United States and its extensive marketing capabilities.
Additionally, the city plans to promote the development of tourism products linked to direct flight routes to expand practical tourism demand.
Furthermore, this memorandum of understanding is expected to promote foreign investment attraction in related industries such as aviation, logistics, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) through strategic linkage with the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZ).
Delta Air Lines, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, is a global airline operating more than 5,000 flights daily to over 290 destinations across six continents. Last year, it recorded over 200 million passengers.
On the 10th (local time), Mayor Yoo met with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp in Atlanta to discuss plans for full-fledged exchange and cooperation between the two regions.
This meeting was prepared as the first step in promoting a practical sisterhood between Incheon City and Georgia, seeking cooperation possibilities in various fields such as economy, culture, education, and tourism, and enhancing mutual understanding.
Previously, in March, the Georgia State Assembly passed a resolution designating Incheon City as a Sister City-State of Georgia, and in April, the Incheon City Council also approved the sisterhood agreement.
On this day, Mayor Yoo explained the necessity and expected effects of the sister city agreement with Georgia and proposed expanding practical cooperation in the future.
The city expects that this visit will serve as an opportunity to establish a practical cooperation foundation with Georgia beyond mere friendly exchanges and to concretize various projects that can be jointly pursued in the future.
Alain Bellemare, Chief Operating Officer and Head of International Business at Delta Air Lines, said, "Incheon is one of the most strategic aviation hubs in Asia. Through this memorandum of understanding, we will further strengthen Delta Air Lines' global aviation network and promote sustainable growth for both sides through close cooperation with Incheon City."
Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok said, "The signing of this memorandum of understanding with Delta Air Lines will be an important opportunity to strengthen Incheon's status as a center city for tourism, logistics, and the aviation industry, while expanding strategic partnerships with global companies."
