[Financial News] HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is accelerating the offshore plant construction of the 'Trion (TRION) FPU (Floating Production Unit)'.
According to the industry on the 13th, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries recently held a hull keel laying ceremony for the Trion FPU at its Ulsan headquarters. The Trion project, a joint venture between Woodside Energy and the Mexican state oil company PEMEX, aims to develop the Trion field, an offshore oil field in the Gulf of Mexico. The Trion field is a deep-sea oil field located 180 km off the eastern coast of Mexico at a depth of 2500 meters. This project is Mexico's first deep-sea oil field development.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries received the order for the Trion FPU from Woodside Energy in June 2023. This facility measures 94 meters in length, 94 meters in width, and 57 meters in height, with a total weight of over 44,000 tons. It can produce 100,000 barrels of crude oil and 4.1 million m³ of natural gas per day.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will manufacture the entire project, including the semi-submersible hull and the topside facilities for crude oil and natural gas production, as well as the living quarters, using the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) method. After a design period of about one year, the hull construction began in the second half of last year. The topside construction will start in early 2025, and the topside will be mounted on the hull in the first half of 2026. The goal is to depart for Mexico in the first half of 2027 and complete installation in the Trion field by the second half of the year.
Lee Sang-kyun, president of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, said at the groundbreaking ceremony in the second half of last year, "Based on our extensive experience in manufacturing multiple offshore facilities, excellent technology, and thorough safety management, we will successfully deliver the Trion facility." ggg@fnnews.com Kang Gugi reporter
