[Financial News] As the heatwave continues with midday temperatures approaching 42 degrees, Greek authorities have implemented work stoppage measures to protect workers.
According to AP News and others on the 7th (local time), the Greek Ministry of Labor ordered the suspension of outdoor labor and food delivery services from noon to 5 PM on that day. Employers were also advised to allow workers to choose to work from home.
This measure mainly applied to central Greece and several island regions, and no separate emergency measures were implemented in the capital, Athens.
Greece has been experiencing a severe heatwave since the 6th. The National Meteorological Authority announced that the temperatures in most mainland areas were between 38 and 40 degrees, with the eastern regions being slightly hotter.
The current heatwave is expected to continue until the 10th, and the Greek Ministry of Culture announced on the 8th (local time) that the Acropolis, a major tourist attraction in Athens, would be closed during the afternoon hours. As a result, tourists will be prohibited from entering the Acropolis during this time for the foreseeable future.
Meanwhile, Greek authorities have stated that they are taking long-term measures to address the effects of climate change, such as deploying the largest number of firefighters this summer.
