[Financial News]  As the demand for replacing meals with bread instead of rice increases, the bakery and distribution industries are expanding their lineup of healthy bread that can be eaten healthily.
According to the industry on the 13th, SPC Paris Baguette is continuously expanding related products after launching the 'Healthy Pleasure' and 'Slow Aging Trend' in February.
Under the slogan 'A New Standard of Healthy Bread', Blue Label is showcasing bread characterized by high protein, low sugar, and high dietary fiber at over 3,400 Paris Baguette locations nationwide. Recently, they have expanded their product lineup to cakes by launching their first low-sugar Greek yogurt cake under the Blue Label.
SPC Samlip is also expanding its healthy bread brand Project H lineup. After launching seven types of high-protein, low-sugar bread in May last year, Samlip followed up with four types of meal bread and desserts. Samlip has applied zero sugar to desserts following bread, introducing products such as zero tiramisu and zero madeleine.
Tous Les Jours unveiled its healthy bread brand 'SLOW TLJ' last month. Previously, they showcased nutrition-enhanced bread such as high-protein brown rice bread and plan to release various healthy breads in the future. A Tous Les Jours representative said, "We plan to strengthen consumer contact through campaign videos and SNS content, including the launch of new healthy bread products in July."
Shinsegae Food's healthy bread products, introduced at the bakery stores Boulangerie and E-Bakery within Emart in October last year, surpassed cumulative sales of 1.5 million units as of June. Riding on this momentum, Shinsegae Food launched the 'Wellness Bakery' brand 'Bo&Me' in February.
Convenience store GS25 has released products such as high-protein, low-sugar bagels, cookies, and whole wheat bread in line with the healthy bread trend.
A GS25 representative said, "Monthly sales of high-protein, low-sugar bagels are showing a 41% growth compared to the previous year," and "We plan to continuously introduce related products, including the additional launch of two types of high-protein, low-sugar baguette products this month."
Meanwhile, the per capita rice consumption of our country's citizens decreased from 57.7 kg in 2020 to 55.8 kg last year. On the other hand, the bread market is expanding. According to market research firm Euromonitor, the domestic meal bread market grew nearly double from about 79.6 billion won in 2018 to about 159.8 billion won in 2023.
