[Financial News] Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, announced on the 29th, "I will make Korea a global standard 'country of patriotic veterans'."
Candidate Lee said on social networking services (SNS) that evening, "If we do not properly honor those who have endured noble sacrifices, no one will step forward for the country in the future," and stated this.
Candidate Lee said, "During my time as mayor of Seongnam, I was the only one in the country to provide veterans' allowances to surviving patriots, and as governor of Gyeonggi Province, I promoted various welfare projects such as honorary allowances, medical expenses, and funeral support for merit holders and their families," adding, "There is no boundary between progressives and conservatives, ruling and opposition parties in front of patriotic veterans. We will carefully examine and improve each and every veterans policy so that national merit holders, their families, and descendants can live with honor and pride."
He also stated, "The freedom and prosperity we enjoy today stand on the sacrifices of the fallen patriots and heroic spirits who gave themselves completely during the most glorious times," and added, "I will inherit the spirit of national defense of the patriots and create a 'country where the people are the owners' that countless fallen patriots dreamed of."
