Busan City, Partial Trial Opening Until October
Busan City announced on the 29th that from June to October, certain areas of lawns in major city parks will be opened on a trial basis for pet companionship. This is implemented in line with the social trend where over 30% of households nationwide are raising pets. Previously, pets were prohibited from entering lawns, but trial openings will first be conducted in representative parks of districts with high citizen demand.
Users can freely set up temporary shades, portable chairs, mats, etc. They must be removed voluntarily after use.
Additionally, to ensure a safe and pleasant environment, basic rules such as mandatory leash for pets, waste disposal, and setting up shades in non-disruptive locations must be followed.
The target areas, operation methods, and specific details will be autonomously determined according to the conditions of 16 districts and the Busan Facilities Corporation, which manage the parks. The city will provide basic guidelines and monitor progress.
An Cheol-su, Director of Green City Bureau, stated, "This trial operation will be an important opportunity to assess the maturity of citizen self-management culture," adding, "We plan to establish a culture of coexistence where pet owners and non-pet owners can consider each other, and decide on expansion based on performance analysis."
