A Couple Receiving 5.43 Million Won Monthly from National Pension Emerges

The number of couples receiving national pension benefits is approaching 800,000. The highest combined monthly amount was found to be 5.43 million won.

According to the National Pension Service on the 29th, the number of couples receiving old-age pensions has steadily increased.

It increased from 355,000 couples at the end of 2019 to 783,000 couples by the end of 2024. In five years, the number of couples receiving benefits has more than doubled. As of the end of January this year, it was 792,015 couples.

Along with the increase in couples receiving benefits, the average combined monthly pension amount they receive has also been increasing annually, reaching 1.11 million won as of the end of January.

There was also a case where a couple received the highest amount of 5.43 million won per month (260 million won for the husband and 283 million won for the wife) based on the combined amount. High-income national pension recipients among couples are mostly long-term subscribers who paid premiums from the early implementation of the system in 1988, when the income replacement rate was relatively high. In the national pension system, if both spouses pay premiums for at least the minimum subscription period of 10 years, both receive their respective pensions until death.
