[Financial News] Han Dong-hoon, former leader of the People Power Party, cast a vote on the first day of early voting for the 21st presidential election on the 29th, and his attire became a topic of discussion.
On this day, former leader Han, who voted in Gwangju, a Democratic Party stronghold, wore the same outfit he wore when he entered the National Assembly main hall, where 190 members of the National Assembly were present, to vote on lifting martial law during the 12·3 martial law. However, reflecting the changed season, one of the shirt buttons, which was fully buttoned during the martial law, was undone.
The reason for wearing the martial law attire was explained during the People Power Party campaign support in Chungjang-ro, Dong-gu, Gwangju, after completing early voting.
Former leader Han said, "Politics of the people, by the people, for the people is the spirit of democracy represented by the Gwangju spirit," and "It is the people's politics to oust Yoon Seok-yeol, who imposed illegal martial law, and Lee Jae-myung, who attempted impeachment more than 30 times, in this election."
He continued, "On the tense 'Night of Martial Law' on December 3 last year, Lee Jae-myung hid in the woods instead of going directly to the National Assembly main hall. I risked my life to go out first and, as the ruling party leader, led the participation of 18 party members in the vote to demand the lifting of martial law," he said.
Former leader Han also said, "There are still people in our party who support martial law, but look at me, who was the party leader," emphasizing that "the 'true spirit' of the People Power Party, the 'spirit of conservatism,' is the spirit that stopped martial law."
He then brought up the phrase 'of the people, by the people, for the people' from Lincoln's Gettysburg Address during the American Civil War, saying, "The People Power Party wants to do good politics in Honam."
Online, reactions to former leader Han's attire included comments like "If that's the intention behind the outfit, it's quite a good plan" or "The clothes worn when shaking hands with Lee Jae-myung at the time of the martial law lift, oh so transparent."
