Highest voter turnout in Honam region, low in Yeongnam region
According to the National Election Commission on the 29th, a total of 8.69 million people completed early voting on this day. This recorded the highest ever voter turnout of 19.58% among the total 44,391,871 voters. On this day, the early voting turnout in the Honam region showed the highest, while the Yeongnam region showed a low turnout.
The voter turnout in the Honam region, a stronghold of the Democratic Party, was very high. Looking at the early voting turnout by region, Jeonnam was the highest at 34.96%, followed by Jeonbuk (32.69%) and Gwangju (32.1%). During the 20th presidential election, Jeonnam (28.11%), Jeonbuk (25.54%), and Gwangju (24.09%) also had the highest early voting turnout on the first day.
On the other hand, in the Yeongnam region, a support base for the People Power Party, the turnout was low. Daegu (13.42%), Gyeongbuk (16.92%), Gyeongnam (17.18%), and Busan (17.21%) were low in that order. In the metropolitan area, the average turnout was slightly below or similar to the average. Seoul (19.13%), Incheon (18.4%), and Gyeonggi (18.24%) are examples.
The nationwide early voting turnout on the first day was 16.32% during the 20th presidential election held over two days, March 4 (Fri) to 5 (Sat), 2022. At that time, about 7.07 million out of the total 44,397,715 voters participated in the voting. The total early voting turnout for the 2022 presidential election (two days combined) was 36.93%.
Early voting will be conducted for two days from today to the 30th. Voting hours are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and to participate in early voting, you must bring an ID and visit an early voting station. You can vote at any of the total 3,565 polling stations nationwide with just an ID.
