Feature Film Inspired by the President and First Lady
[Financial News] 'Breaking News. President Kim Seokil Declares Martial Law' is a scene from the occult political thriller 'Sinmyeong' set to be released on June 2.
'Sinmyeong', inspired by the President and First Lady, is set to be released on the day of the presidential election, drawing attention to what kind of reaction it will generate. This movie depicts the confrontation between a woman trying to seize power with mysterious forces and those uncovering the great truth hidden behind it.
Actor Kim Gyuri plays Yoon Jihee, who was fascinated by shamanism starting with Ouija board games in her childhood. Ahn Naesang plays Jeong Hyeonsu, an investigative reporter who harbors strong suspicions about the suspicious connection between prosecutor-turned-politician Kim Seokil, who has rapidly emerged as a presidential candidate, and Yoon Jihee.
Kim Gyuri cited "the shock and helplessness during the 12.3 martial law" as the reason for appearing in this movie during the production briefing and YouTube channel News Factory.
She said, "I was greatly shocked when the 12.3 martial law was declared," adding, "It was shocking to see people I respect and love on the (martial law notebook) list, and the expression of collecting and exploding them was too shocking."
"As an actor, I am very sensitive to sentences or words because I always read scripts," she recalled, "but the word 'collect' is not a word that can be used for people. After the consecutive incidents, including the Muan Airport passenger plane disaster, I almost collapsed and couldn't get up last January." "I was really in pain due to the helplessness of not being able to do anything," she said, "and during that time, I received an offer to appear. As an actor, I thought I should do something with a work," she explained the reason for her appearance.
According to Director Kim Namgyun and Kim Gyuri, 'Sinmyeong', planned last December, quickly progressed to the pre-production stage. Filming took place for about a month from March 22 to April 30. It took about six months from planning to release for a feature film to come out.
This seems possible because of Director Kim Namgyun, who majored in cinematography at the National Film School in Lodz, Poland, and is active overseas, and actors who decided to appear in a film with sensitive material. Director Kim said, "I received an offer to direct this movie when I was almost done filming movies related to shamanism." "It's a political drama that can't be laughed at or feared without understanding the context of reality," he said.
Joo Seonghwan, who played the role of President Kim Seokil, said, "I was writing a script, and it was in line with what I was writing, so I decided to do it."
Ahn Naesang, who received an offer to appear while living isolated from the world, thought, 'Can we shoot something like this?' "My daughter and son were out there screaming, but I was just watching. I wanted to speak, but I didn't know how. I thought, 'Let's add a voice,'" he explained the background of his appearance.
