[Financial News] Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party presidential candidate, visited the National Assembly Members' Office Building at dawn on the 29th, when early voting began, to urge Lee Jun-seok of the Reform New Party for unification, but was 'turned away at the door', ultimately resulting in failure. Although June 3, the day of the main vote, is seen as the 'third unification deadline', the highest early voting rate in history has been achieved, and Lee Jun-seok is not showing any change in attitude, making it likely that the three-way structure will remain intact.
Nevertheless, the People Power Party is hoping for unification by drawing votes from Lee Jun-seok through stimulating the 'vote waste prevention psychology' of conservative and anti-Myeong voters while not letting go of the hope for unification until the end.
Kim, on this day, voted early in Incheon Gyeyang-gu, the constituency of Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party, and met with reporters to discuss unification with Lee Jun-seok, saying, "I will continue to make efforts until the end" and "I am working to unite as one overall." This message indicates that he will not let go of the unification string, which has faded with the start of early voting, until the end.
Kim attempted to meet with Lee Jun-seok immediately after completing his campaign schedule in the Yeongnam region the previous day by heading straight to the National Assembly Members' Office Building in Yeouido, Seoul, but failed as Lee Jun-seok did not respond. Despite Lee Jun-seok repeatedly dismissing the idea of unification with the 'martial law forces', Kim continued to take active actions, attempting to rally 'conservative and anti-Myeong forces'.
Although unification failed on the day before early voting, which was the 'second unification deadline', expectations for unification before the main vote are not being abandoned. Kim said, "We must continue to make efforts until the main vote," and added, "I want to say that we must unite to block the bulletproof monster dictatorship."
However, as the early voting participation rate breaks the historical record, the possibility of unification seems to be further decreasing. This is because the support of voters who have already cast their votes for Lee Jun-seok becomes meaningless. Perhaps conscious of this, Kwon Seong-dong, the joint election campaign committee chairman, appealed to Lee Jun-seok supporters to vote for Kim Moon-soo, stating that Kim would accept Lee's policy pledges. Kwon said, "Unification will be achieved according to the choice of voters at the polling station." He also mentioned, "Good ideas such as the National Science Hero Honor System, the National Responsibility System for Math Education, and the 'Pink License Plate' for multi-child families among Lee Jun-seok's pledges will be carefully reviewed and accepted," and "The Kim Moon-soo government can accept and realize Lee Jun-seok's vision and policies."
Furthermore, "Kim created Dongtan New City, and Dongtan New City created Lee Jun-seok," he said, "Now is Kim Moon-soo, the future is Lee Jun-seok. I hope Lee Jun-seok supporters will make a wise decision."
Kim Moon-soo announced a pledge to strengthen communication with the people and bipartisan cooperation, declaring, "I will end the era of communication breakdown, blackout, and dictatorship, and open the era of a communication president." As a specific measure, he promised △ regularizing 'Dialogue with the People' quarterly △ holding 'Media Day' with reporters once a week △ meeting with opposition leaders at least once every two months.
Kim declared, "I will be the president who communicates best, approaches the people with actions, not words, and communicates sincerely to the point where the people might find it bothersome."
Meanwhile, Kim plans to continue a '90-hour non-stop outdoor campaign' from the 30th until the end of the election campaign. Jang Dong-hyuk, the situation room chief, announced, "Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be in southern Gyeonggi, the 1st and 2nd in northern Gyeonggi, and the final campaign site will be gathered in Seoul."
