[Financial News] Coupang will suspend daytime Rocket Delivery (7 AM∼8 PM) on March 3 to ensure voting rights for delivery drivers on presidential election day. This is the first suspension of Coupang's Rocket Delivery since the service began in 2014.
According to the distribution industry on the 29th, Rocket Delivery operations will be suspended from 7 AM to 8 PM on March 3, election day.
As a result, an estimated 20,000 people, including Coupang employees and daytime delivery drivers affiliated with courier service points, will be on leave.
Coupang decided to suspend daytime Rocket Delivery after other courier companies such as CJ Logistics, Hanjin, Lotte Global Logistics, and Logen Courier accepted demands to ensure voting rights for delivery drivers and decided to take a day off on election day.
Consequently, 'Coupang Friends', who are directly employed by Coupang Logistics, will receive paid leave as regular employees, and delivery drivers affiliated with courier service points as independent contractors will not receive delivery assignments.
Daytime staff at Coupang Logistics Service (CLS) camps (delivery bases), a subsidiary of Coupang, will also take a break.
The Coupang Fulfillment Center, which stores goods for delivery, will suspend daytime delivery-related operations but will continue normal operations for tasks such as product intake.
