[Financial News] The Korea Forest Service announced on the 29th that it will select the best of the best among the outstanding forest ecological restoration sites that have won awards in the 'National Forest Ecological Restoration Technology Competition', which marks its 20th year this year, to reassess the effectiveness and goal achievement of forest ecological restoration.
The National Forest Ecological Restoration Technology Competition has annually discovered excellent cases of ecologically restored damaged forests, such as abandoned quarries and roads, using eco-friendly methods and materials through a contest since 2005.
This year's Forest Ecological Restoration Technology Competition will select the best of the best forest ecological restoration sites from 114 sites with award-winning records in the same competition. An internal and external panel of ecological restoration experts will select five candidates for the best of the best forest ecological restoration sites through document reviews and on-site inspections based on evaluation criteria such as completeness, symbolism, and management, and then determine the final ranking by adding up the results of a public vote.
The final results will be announced on September 15th on the Korea Mountain Preservation Association's website, and awards will be given as follows: △ Grand Prize (1 institution, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award and a prize of 5 million won) △ Excellence Award (2 institutions, Korea Forest Service Award and a prize of 2 million won each) △ Merit Award (2 institutions, each Korea Mountain Preservation Association Award, Korea Forest Restoration Association Award and a prize of 1 million won each) totaling 11 million won and certificates.
Institutions wishing to participate can download the application form from the Korea Forest Service and Korea Mountain Preservation Association websites and submit it to the Korea Mountain Preservation Association by July 27th via email (wowmk7@kfca.re.kr) or mail.
Choi Young-tae, Director of the Forest Protection Bureau of the Korea Forest Service, said, "It is meaningful that the most outstanding forest ecological restoration sites representing our country are selected with direct participation from the public," adding, "We will continue to restore damaged forests such as Baekdudaegan using eco-friendly methods and materials."
