【Financial News Pohang=Kim Jang-wook Reporter】 On the afternoon of the 29th at around 1:50 PM, a maritime patrol aircraft (P-3C) operated by the Navy crashed in a mountain near Pohang Airport in Sinjeong-ri, Donghae-myeon, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongbuk.
The accident aircraft was a P-3C maritime patrol aircraft with 4 people onboard at the time of the crash. It is known to have crashed in a mountain near the base for unknown reasons after taking off from Pohang Base for training.
At the accident site, a fire broke out simultaneously with the crash, and smoke is rising, with fire authorities conducting firefighting operations on site.
Upon the accident, the fire authorities mobilized 2 helicopters, 17 pieces of equipment, and 40 personnel to extinguish the fire at the accident aircraft and nearby site.
The survival status of the passengers has not yet been confirmed.
The military authorities stated, "The accident aircraft, which took off from Pohang Base for training at around 1:43 PM, crashed near the base for unknown reasons."
