In Gyeongsangbuk-do, Pohang, a Navy patrol aircraft crashed into a mountain in Nam-gu, Pohang.
On the 29th, the Navy announced, "Today at around 1:43 PM, a maritime patrol aircraft (P-3) that took off from the Pohang base for training crashed near the base for unknown reasons."
The Navy also added, "There are 4 crew members onboard, and we are confirming the circumstances of the accident and the status of casualties and damage."
The Pohang fire authorities also announced that a fire broke out from the crashed Navy patrol aircraft, and they are conducting extinguishing operations. The fire authorities mobilized 2 helicopters, 17 pieces of equipment, and 40 personnel.
The P-3C Orion is a four-engine turboprop aircraft designed by the US Navy to locate and track enemy submarines. Recently, it has been modified to enable land and sea surface surveillance.
