K-water, Korail, and Yeongju City Operate Railway Travel Product
[Financial News] A travel product connecting dams, local attractions, and railways using an environmental big data platform has been launched, attracting citizens' attention.
On the 29th, Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) announced that it has launched a train travel event product called 'Healing Yeongju Dam Following the Waves and Rails' in cooperation with Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) and Yeongju City to revitalize dam areas and regions with declining populations.
This product is a one-day train travel package consisting of a KTX ticket and a Healing Yeongju Dam travel package. It connects Yeongju Dam operated by K-water and key tourist resources of Yeongju City, such as Buseoksa Temple and local traditional markets, with Korail's train operations.
K-water selected Yeongju Dam and Yeongju City, located in regions with declining populations, by considering the ecological and cultural resource information of the dam surrounding areas, which are open through the environmental big data platform, Korail's passenger boarding and alighting data, KTX railway network accessibility, and local attractions.
Travelers using this product first move to Yeongju City via KTX. Then, they visit Buseoksa Temple, registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Seonbi World, a theme park of Seonbi culture, the suspension bridge and Water Culture Center at Yongmaru Park of Yeongju Dam, and traditional markets.
The travel product is expected to be operated until July 31, and reservations can be made on Korail's official website. Users can also receive a 50% discount on train fares and admission fees to Seonbi World.
Additionally, after visiting the Water Culture Center of Yeongju Dam, K-water offers special souvenirs using Yeongju's specialty apples. On weekends, a special weekend voucher worth 10,000 won, usable at Yeongju City's traditional markets, is provided.
Ryu Hyung-joo, Vice President of K-water, said, "This event is the first domestic project to revitalize dam surrounding areas through voluntary cooperation between institutions," and "We will continue to lead the discovery of water-friendly values around dams and regional co-prosperity development by cooperating with various institutions."
