Kangwon Autonomous Province and Wonju City signed an MOU with Genewel in June last year. Founded in 2000, Genewel developed Medifoam, a wound dressing, and Gadix, an adhesion barrier, based on its excellent technology, and launched them in the domestic medical device market.
Genewel will invest a total of 50 billion won in the new Wonju factory to build a cGMP plant that meets US FDA standards.
In particular, the existing factories in Seongnam and Hwaseong will be integrated and relocated to Wonju to improve production efficiency, and plans to hire about 50 new employees are expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
Han Sang-deok, CEO of Genewel, stated, "We will create a manufacturing environment that meets global good manufacturing and quality control standards to actively respond to increasing export volumes and expand into overseas markets, aiming to become a global company beyond the domestic market."
Won Kang-su, Mayor of Wonju, said, "We sincerely welcome the relocation of the solid mid-sized company Genewel and will actively support the smooth completion of the construction by shortening the licensing period in Wonju City," and added, "We will continue to provide support and attention to create a business-friendly Wonju where excellent companies can continue to invest."
