【Financial News Jeonju=Kang In Reporter】 The '4th Comprehensive Island Development Plan' is underway to improve the living conditions of island areas in Jeonbuk and promote balanced national development.
According to Jeonbuk Province on the 29th, the island comprehensive development project is a government-led 10-year development plan. Starting with the first plan in 1988, the current fourth project (until 2027) is being pursued.
The island development project in the province targets 22 islands in 3 areas: Gunsan, Gochang, and Buan.
With 88.2 billion won from the national budget and 18.9 billion won from local funds, 55 infrastructure facilities such as roads, breakwaters, wharves, pedestrian bridges, and tourist roads are being constructed.
Currently, 27 projects have been completed, including the internal tourist road of Seonyudo in Gunsan and the breakwater of Naejukdo in Gochang.
Projects such as the installation of pedestrian bridges between Maldo, Myeongdo, and Bangchukdo are expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The 'Island Specialization Project', which involves establishing village development plans and utilizing local resources to conduct income-generating projects, is also underway.
The targets are 8 islands, including Maldo and Munyeodo in Gunsan, and this year, customized facilities such as auto camping sites and fishing village tourism farms will be established on 6 islands, including Gaeyado, Yamido, and Sinsido.
A Jeonbuk Province official said, "Islands are no longer isolated backward areas but future growth hubs of Jeonbuk and forward bases for maritime sovereignty protection," adding, "We will enhance the value of islands to serve as a model for sustainable regional balanced development."
