【Financial News Pocheon=Kim Kyung-soo Reporter】 Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province, has begun full-scale maintenance work for the installation of a suspension bridge at the summit of Unaksan in Hwacheon-myeon.
According to Pocheon City on the 29th, the project involves installing a 35m long suspension bridge on the cliff section from Aegibong to Sarakibawi, and constructing an 83m walkway, a 44m ridge staircase, and one observatory below the cliff.
The Unaksan suspension bridge is the first suspension bridge to connect the summit of a mountain over 800m above sea level. The city has completed related procedures such as the temporary use report of the northern regional forest office of the Korea Forest Service and the development activity permit of Gapyeong County. The project was promoted with a budget of 3 billion won since July last year.
The city expects that the Unaksan summit suspension bridge will connect the disconnected Hanbukjeongmaek section of Unaksan and enhance accessibility and experiential elements for hikers.
Baek Young-hyeon, Mayor of Pocheon, said, "Unaksan is a famous mountain in Gyeonggi Province and a popular destination for many hikers," adding, "Through this suspension bridge construction, we will strengthen experiential content and develop Unaksan as a representative tourist attraction in the metropolitan area, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy as the top tourist city in the metropolitan area."
