[Financial News] An eco-friendly land-based fish farm model incorporating advanced information and communication (IT) technology is expected to be presented soon targeting nationwide land-based fish farms.
The National Institute of Fisheries Science (Sugawon) announced on the 29th that it held an initiation report meeting for the 'Smart Eco-friendly Land-based Fish Farm Standard Model Development' in the afternoon of the 28th to strengthen the competitiveness of the aquaculture industry.
Recently, the introduction of cutting-edge IT technology is being attempted in the aquaculture industry. However, when constructing a fish farm, more than 60% of the total cost is usually spent on civil engineering and construction costs, so there is a demand for the development of an appropriate standard model for facilities.
In response, Sugawon plans to develop a fish farm standard model focusing on building safety, energy saving, and productivity improvement over the next three years.
The first year of research aims to produce standard designs for flatfish and olive flounder fish farms. Administrative and legal reviews will be conducted along with economic analysis following the development of design drawings to make it easy for fishermen to use.
Yongseok Choi, Director of Sugawon, said, "The development of an eco-friendly land-based fish farm standard model considering domestic fish farm sites is essential for establishing aquaculture facility standards and industrial development," and added, "Our institute will contribute to the dissemination of future-oriented and economical aquaculture facilities by developing an eco-friendly land-based fish farm standard model."
