Gangso Research and Development Zone, Discussing Phase 2 Support 'Incentive Provision'

[Financial News] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 29th that it will discuss strengthening the phase 2 specialized development plan for the Gangso Research and Development Zones designated in six regions nationwide and promote the expansion of regional autonomy and the provision of incentives.
The Gangso Research and Development Zone was designated in 2019 under the Research and Development Zone Act as a method of intensively creating and fostering in a small area. These areas include Seoul Hongneung, Gyeongbuk Gumi, Ulsan Ulju, Jeonnam Naju, Jeonbuk Gunsan, and Chungnam Cheonan/Asan.
On this day, a meeting held at the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute in Changwon, Gyeongnam, proceeded in the order of discussing the phase 2 promotion direction of the Gangso Zones, the phase 2 specialized development promotion plan of the six Gangso Zones, and policy suggestions for the development of the Gangso Zones. In particular, the Ministry of Science and ICT introduced the direction of business reorganization, including the introduction of self-reliant Gangso Zones, along with specialized development, expansion of regional autonomy, and incentives for phase 2 project support of the Gangso Zones. Previously, phase 1 support focused on establishing a foundation such as commercialization of regional public technology and creating a cooperation network.
Lee Chang-yun, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "It is a time when deep consideration is needed for what comes next, as it has been over five years since the designation of the Gangso Zones," and added, "Now, based on the achievements so far, we will spare no effort in continuous support so that the Gangso Zones can serve as a focal point for regional innovation of local governments."
