[Financial News] Miral Welfare Foundation announced on the 29th that it will continue to support the rights and social integration of disabled children in the Nyanza region of Kisumu County, Kenya, Africa.
Miral Welfare Foundation has embarked on Phase 2 of the 'Kenya Kisumu County Nyanza Region Disabled Children Social Integration Support Project' this year, based on the achievements of Phase 1, which was promoted for three years since 2022.
Phase 1 was conducted around Onjiko and Awasi in the Nyanza region of Kenya. Miral Welfare Foundation established introductory special classes in public schools in the area and created a barrier-free environment that allows disabled children to commute and learn. As a result, a total of 107 disabled children were able to enroll in the regular curriculum.
There were also significant changes in terms of medical services. Rehabilitation treatment rooms were newly built or renovated in three public hospitals in the area, and outreach rehabilitation workers were trained to provide rehabilitation treatment services through home visits, greatly improving treatment accessibility.
At the same time, support was provided to the guardians of disabled children in agriculture, poultry farming, and vocational training to help families achieve economic independence, and changes in the local community were also led through disability awareness campaigns and policy proposal activities targeting local governments.
The core of Phase 2 is to expand support from existing support areas to the vicinity of Ahero and to further strengthen support in various fields such as education, health, and economy. In the field of education, intermediate classes will be established to enable linkage from introductory special classes to higher-level education, and a barrier-free environment will be expanded throughout public facilities to practically guarantee educational accessibility for disabled children.
Eunseon Bae, head of the Miral Welfare Foundation's Kenya branch, said, “The newly launched Phase 2 project for social integration support for disabled children in the Nyanza region of Kisumu County, Kenya, focuses on creating an integrated environment and system that allows disabled children to realize their potential through respect beyond discrimination and isolation,” adding, “We will go beyond simple support and cooperate with the local government to realize a sustainable inclusive society.”
