The Army's western frontline General Outpost (GOP) experienced another accidental machine gun discharge about a month later.
Previously, on the 23rd of last month, an accidental discharge occurred during a weapon inspection at a Central Frontline Guard Post (GP) where one K-6 machine gun bullet was fired.
On the 29th, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced, "Our military confirmed that one live bullet was fired during a gun inspection at the western frontline GOP around 5 PM on the 28th."
The Joint Chiefs of Staff explained, "The unit immediately conducted a broadcast to the North upon the incident, and there have been no unusual movements from the North Korean military so far."
It is known that the K-6 machine gun bullet fired from a unit in Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, flew towards the North, but the landing point has not been confirmed.
Yang Seung-gwan, spokesperson for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said, "The detailed matters are currently under investigation," and added, "We will separately review measures to prevent recurrence."
