[Financial News]  A man in his 50s from the UK who used to take donuts to work decided to change after being diagnosed with 'pre-diabetes'. He stopped eating donuts and started drinking green tea. After 9 months, there was an amazing change. His blood sugar levels dropped, and he lost weight as a bonus.

On the 27th (local time), The Mirror and other foreign media introduced the story of Graham Rowe (59), who lost weight and regained his health after being diagnosed with pre-diabetes stage 2.

Rowe said, “My father had diabetes, so I know how difficult the disease is. After being diagnosed with pre-diabetes from a blood test, I decided to reverse my health condition.”

Fortunately, there was an effective program for his health.
The 'Healthier You Programme' conducted by NHS England, the UK's public health care system, was ongoing. According to The Mirror, last year alone, 166,360 people registered with this program to find ways to maintain a healthy diet and physical activity.

Since the program started in 2016, more than 900,000 adults at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes have participated.

Following the program, Rowe changed his diet. He stopped taking donuts to work as snacks. He also quit eating cookies. Instead, he drank green tea when he felt hungry. By consistently maintaining his diet and exercise, Rowe successfully lost 25kg in 9 months, and his blood sugar levels returned to normal.

The Mirror also warned about the donuts and cookies Rowe used to enjoy. These foods are representative of high glycemic index foods due to refined carbohydrates. The glycemic index indicates the degree to which carbohydrates in food raise blood sugar levels. Eating high glycemic index foods causes a rapid increase in blood sugar, leading to a sharp insulin release to control it.

The green tea that Rowe enjoyed during his diet, on the other hand, helps break down body fat and aids in weight loss. The epigallocatechin gallate compound found in green tea promotes metabolism, increases calorie consumption, breaks down fat cells to burn body fat, and helps manage post-meal blood sugar levels.

However, a cup of green tea contains 30-50mg of caffeine, so it's best not to exceed two to three cups a day. The recommended caffeine intake for adults, as suggested by the Food and Drug Administration, is a maximum of 400mg.
