[Financial News] The Democratic Party has filed a criminal complaint against Lee Jun-seok, the candidate of the Reform New Party, for allegedly making false statements under the Public Official Election Act. Members of Kim Moon-soo's People Power Party campaign team are also included in the complaint for allegedly spreading false information regarding the military service issue of candidate Lee Jae-myung's children.
Jo Seung-rae, the chief spokesperson of the Democratic Party's Central Election Committee, held a briefing at the Democratic Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on the morning of the 29th, stating, "Candidate Lee Jun-seok cleverly mixed facts and falsehoods to slander candidate Lee Jae-myung during TV debates and subsequent press conferences," and criticized, "He has continued to make false claims by bringing up issues that were already judged by the public during the 2022 presidential election just before the election."
Candidate Lee Jae-myung's side particularly refuted that candidate Lee Jun-seok raised past controversies related to Lee Jae-myung's son during a TV debate, questioning "the morality of a public official candidate," by saying, "The person involved was sentenced to a fine and took legal responsibility, and candidate Lee Jae-myung even apologized to the public for the matter."
Jo spokesperson stated, "Candidate Lee Jun-seok is all-in on negativity at the last minute of the election to cover his political burden," and added, "We have filed a complaint for the clear dissemination of false information, and if additional false statements are confirmed during press conferences, we will file additional complaints."
The Democratic Party has also initiated criminal complaint procedures against members of candidate Kim's campaign team. The person in question is accused of spreading false information online, claiming that Lee Jae-myung's two children were exempted from military service. The content was temporarily spread through a social media post by Professor Lee Soo-jung but was soon deleted.
Jo spokesperson explained, "That post is also clearly false," and stated, "We plan to file complaints against those who aided or further disseminated it, along with Kim Moon-soo's campaign team members."
