The MSC Korea Awards is an event that selects and awards outstanding companies that have made efforts for sustainability in the marine and fisheries sector, organized by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). It started in 2021 and is held annually, with this year's event taking place on the 28th at the SKY31 Convention Center in Lotte World Tower, Seoul.
Kurly was recognized for its efforts to promote and increase the distribution of MSC 'Eco-Label' seafood, thereby increasing touchpoints with consumers.
MSC Eco-Label seafood is a type of certification mark given to seafood produced through sustainable fishing. It requires passing various evaluation criteria covering the entire fishing operation, including marine ecosystem and species protection and compliance with international regulations. As the consumption of MSC Eco-Label seafood increases, eco-friendly fishing and other sustainable practices expand, creating a virtuous cycle that strengthens sustainability in the marine and fisheries sector.
Kurly has been verifying MSC Eco-Label seafood once more through the 'Product Committee' while also increasing the number of products to present to customers. As a result, the number of MSC Eco-Label products increased by 20% by the end of 2024 compared to the previous year. Additionally, Kurly is actively informing consumers about the selection criteria and value of seafood in the 'Rare Value Project' product section, which introduces special ingredients, to promote the expansion of sustainable products.
Seogwi Saeng, Head of Product Marketing Division, said, "This award has made Kurly rethink its mission and responsibility as a company leading sustainable consumption," and "We plan to actively develop and present MSC-certified products, which are at the center of value consumption, in the future."
