The Ministry of Environment announced on the 29th that it will hold a 'Hydrogen Mobility Promotion Forum (Seminar)' on the 30th at Ferrum Tower in Jung-gu, Seoul.
This forum is organized by the Korea Natural Gas and Hydrogen Vehicle Association to share the achievements of hydrogen electric bus distribution and discuss the introduction of hydrogen combustion engine commercial vehicles.
In the first part of the forum, the government's hydrogen electric bus distribution plan will be introduced, and excellent cases of hydrogen electric bus charging station construction and operation by local governments, transportation companies, and hydrogen charging station builders will be shared.
In the second part, the current status of hydrogen combustion engine commercial vehicle development will be introduced, and issues and development strategies related to the introduction of hydrogen combustion engine commercial vehicles will be discussed through expert discussions.
Currently, hydrogen combustion engines are being developed by related companies (HD Doosan Infracore) for use in commercial vehicles (trucks) and construction machinery with an engine displacement of 11 liters.
Both hydrogen electric vehicles and hydrogen combustion engine vehicles do not emit greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide). However, hydrogen combustion engines emit nitrogen oxides (NOx) during the high-temperature combustion process, so post-treatment (reduction) is necessary, and energy efficiency is lower compared to hydrogen electric vehicles.
The Ministry of Environment plans to strengthen the effectiveness of the hydrogen electric bus distribution policy and seriously consider the introduction of hydrogen combustion engine commercial vehicles based on the discussions at this forum.
Oh Il-young, Director of Air Environment Policy at the Ministry of Environment, stated, "The transition to zero-emission vehicles is a key means of reducing greenhouse gases in the transportation sector," and added, "Through this forum, we will continue to strengthen the hydrogen vehicle ecosystem to accelerate the distribution of hydrogen vehicles, which is a pillar of zero-emission vehicles."
