In June, to commemorate Memorial Month, events and music performances themed 'The Yesterday They Protected, The Tomorrow We Will Create', and support projects for national merit recipients will be held.
According to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs on the 29th, the 70th Memorial Day ceremony will be held on June 6 at the National Seoul Memorial Cemetery. Through memorial performances that remember the dedication of fallen heroes and patriots, a national atmosphere of remembrance will be fostered, and over 200 local governments nationwide plan to hold regional events.
Kang Jeong-ae, Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, stated, "Just as our ancestors showed their love for the country, now we must unite through veterans' affairs to gather the capabilities to advance towards a prosperous future Korea. We hope for much public interest and participation in Memorial Month."
The Ministry will produce and distribute the 'Love for the Country Big Tree Badge' throughout June, and promote the production of souvenirs and events using the veterans' character 'Bobo'. In particular, they plan to collaborate with the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) to attach veterans' symbols patches to professional baseball players' uniforms.
As an international exchange event for future generations, the UN Participating Nations Descendants Exchange Camp will be held from June 6-12 in Seoul and Busan, with a total of 150 students from participating nations. From the end of June, a group of 80 young people, including domestic university students and teachers, will conduct overseas tours of veterans' historical sites in Kazakhstan and Europe.
This year's 'Korea Memorial Festa' will be divided into the 'Korea Memorial Music Festa' (June 6-7) and the 'Korea Memorial Food Festa' (June 13-15). Last year, it was successfully held with over 250,000 participants.
At the Music Festa held at Olympic Park in Songpa-gu, Seoul, singers such as Nell, Chanyeol, Ailee, Gummy, Crying Nut, and Choi Yoori will perform to reflect on Korea's history. The Food Festa will feature independence movement-themed dishes by famous chefs like Choi Hyun-seok and Ahn Yoo-sung.
The 75th Anniversary of the Korean War event will be held on June 25 at the Daejeon Convention Center. This is the first time the central event of the Korean War is held in Daejeon, which was the temporary capital during the war (June 27 - July 16, 1950) and has grown into an international science city today. The Ministry plans to convey a message of peace and prosperity.
For national merit recipients, the Ministry, together with the Korea Export-Import Bank and the private social welfare organization 'Love Snail', will conduct individual hearing tests for 100 Korean War and Vietnam War veterans and provide customized hearing aids worth 150 million won under the 'Sound Dream' project.
In collaboration with the Korea Housing Finance Corporation and Habitat for Humanity Korea, they will promote the 'Honor House' project, a housing improvement project for Vietnam War veterans, with an investment of 300 million won.
The Ministry also plans to provide free comprehensive health check-up services to over 10,000 veterans and their spouses aged 20 and above in collaboration with the Korea Health Management Association's 17 branches nationwide, and promote the spread of 'living veterans culture' through free and discounted benefits in various fields such as domestic airfares and home appliances.
