[Financial News] In June, when the Busan International Dance Festival raises its curtain, Busan will be immersed in a global dance feast for five days.
Busan City and the Busan International Dance Festival Organizing Committee (Chairman Shin Eun-joo) will hold the '21st Busan International Dance Festival' from June 4 to 8 at the Busan Cinema Center, Haeundae Beach special stage, and Suyeong Historical Park.
This year, a large-scale art festival will unfold with 30 performance groups and over 400 artists from 9 countries, including South Korea, Hungary, France, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Argentina, Italy, presenting more than 50 works on stage.
This year's opening piece is the full-length special invitation performance 'Carmina Burana' by the world-renowned Hungarian Szeged Contemporary Ballet, performed three times from the 5th to the 7th. This work is based on the cantata by 20th-century German composer Carl Orff, with direction by world-renowned choreographer Tamás Juronics, and is a representative work of the Szeged Contemporary Ballet.
Having been performed over 400 times worldwide, surpassing 200,000 cumulative viewers, and receiving standing ovations at every performance, it is a work recognized for both artistry and popularity. It will meet audiences as an Asian premiere through this dance festival.
At the Haeundae Beach special stage, performances featuring diverse works such as street dance, contemporary dance, folk dance, and classical ballet can be enjoyed against the backdrop of the sea on the 6th and 7th over two days. This stage, set against the beautiful natural sunset and waves, is considered the highlight of the dance festival.
Additionally, the 'Korea-France (Busan-Cannes) Joint Collaborative Creation' work 'No Matter' will premiere on the Haeundae Beach special stage on the 6th and at the Sky Theater of the Busan Cinema Center on the 8th. This work was selected for the '2025 Interactive International Cultural Collaboration Support' project by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange and will be showcased at the 'Cannes Dance Festival' in November.
Various street performances and citizen participation programs will continue at Gwangalli Beach, Suyeong Historical Park, and Busan Citizens Park, with open stages involving local artists and youth groups.
The special invitation performance 'Carmina Burana' and the Korea-France joint collaborative work 'No Matter' can be reserved through Interpark Ticket and the Busan Cinema Center website, while the Haeundae Beach special stage and street performances are free. Detailed information and schedules can be checked on the official dance festival website.
Park Hyung-jun, the chairman of the Busan International Dance Festival Organizing Committee, said, “The Busan International Dance Festival is a global platform for artistic exchange and a dance festival,” and “We will actively support it to grow as an international art platform that enhances the city brand of Busan as a global hub city.”
