[Financial News] Hyundai Mobis, responsible for supplying after-service (AS) parts for Hyundai Motor and Kia, has established a large-scale logistics center in Gyeongju following the existing Asan Logistics Center. As a result, customers using Hyundai and Kia vehicles are expected to benefit from faster and more stable AS parts supply when using maintenance services.
■Hyundai Mobis '11 Soccer Fields' Large Logistics Hub
Hyundai Mobis announced on the 29th that it has newly built and started full-scale operation of the Yeongnam Logistics Center for vehicle AS parts supply at Myeonggye 3 Industrial Complex in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. The new logistics center, which cost a total of 97 billion won to build, began operations earlier this year after more than two years of construction. The site area is 81,000㎡ (24,000 pyeong), equivalent to 11 soccer fields.
Accordingly, Hyundai Mobis plans to hold an official opening ceremony at the Gyeongju Yeongnam Logistics Center on the 30th. The Yeongnam Logistics Center is a large logistics hub that integrates three logistics bases in the Yeongnam region, previously dispersed in Gyeongju Oedong, Naengcheon, and Gyeongsan. It will play a role in receiving parts from 270 production partners in the Yeongnam region and supplying them to Hyundai and Kia customers nationwide in a timely manner.
With the establishment of the Yeongnam Logistics Center, Hyundai Mobis now has two large-scale logistics hubs for domestic AS parts supply, along with the existing Asan Logistics Center. These logistics centers will initially receive AS parts produced in the Yeongnam and Chungcheong regions, where production partners are concentrated, and circulate them through a logistics network of over 1,000 nationwide. They serve as two hearts that smoothly supply AS parts across the country.
Son Chan-mo, Head of Hyundai Mobis Service Parts BU (Vice President), emphasized, "We will continue to innovate the AS parts supply system for domestic Hyundai and Kia customers through logistics hub efficiency," and added, "We plan to gradually expand regional logistics hubs for faster and more accurate domestic AS parts supply."
■Managing 175,000 Parts for Hyundai & Kia
The newly built Gyeongju Yeongnam Logistics Center by Hyundai Mobis manages approximately 175,000 items for 152 Hyundai and Kia car models. By automating the processes of receiving, storing, and shipping, logistics management efficiency has also been improved. Baek Moon-gi, Head of the Yeongnam Logistics Center, explained, "For small vehicle parts, the number of cases handled per hour has increased from 2 to up to 3 times compared to manual work due to automation."
The use of renewable energy is also planned to be significantly expanded. Hyundai Mobis is in the process of installing solar panels on the entire roof of the building, and actual operation will begin in the second half of this year. Hyundai Mobis is concretizing efforts for this renewable energy transition, focusing on new hubs, to achieve the RE100 goal of replacing all electricity used in domestic and overseas business sites with renewable energy by 2040.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Mobis is also continuously working on logistics efficiency at overseas logistics hubs. The AS parts managed by Hyundai Mobis domestically and internationally cover 205 car models with 280 items. To this end, Hyundai Mobis currently operates a total of 54 logistics hubs worldwide in regions including North America, Europe, China, and Asia. In addition to domestic logistics centers for domestic demand, Hyundai Mobis operates export logistics centers in Ulsan and Asan to supply AS parts to global logistics hubs. The Asan Logistics Center handles both domestic and export logistics, while the Ulsan Logistics Center is dedicated solely to export logistics.
