[Financial News] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold a meeting on April 30 in Seoul to strengthen safety at baseball stadiums.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 29th, this meeting was promoted to discuss safety measures to prevent the recurrence of similar accidents, following the structure fall accident that occurred at Changwon NC Park Masan Stadium at the end of March, and to establish a systematic safety inspection plan for baseball stadiums nationwide.
The meeting, which will be held privately, will be attended by related institutions including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the facility management entities of 13 baseball stadiums nationwide used by 10 domestic baseball teams, the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, the Korea Land and Housing Corporation, and the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO).
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to share the results of the emergency safety inspection and follow-up action plan for Changwon NC Park Masan Stadium and introduce the 'Baseball Stadium Attachment Safety Inspection Manual' prepared through meetings with related agencies and expert consultations.
The manual includes detailed inspection contents such as △establishment of safety inspection plans for attachments such as ceilings, pipes, and railings △preliminary investigation △inspection standards and procedures by attachment type △repair and reinforcement measures.
If the results of the self-safety inspection determine that there is a concern for the safety of baseball stadium users, it is recommended to request an inspection using specialized equipment by experts in the relevant field. In particular, if repair or reinforcement is necessary, it is recommended to establish short-term and medium- to long-term maintenance plans.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to explain comprehensive safety assurance measures for sports facilities based on the main contents of the 'Sports Facility Safety Inspection Rating Manual' and the 'Integrated Safety Management Guide (Baseball Stadium)'.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plan to request the facility management entities of the 13 baseball stadiums attending the meeting to conduct self-safety inspections promptly and submit the results. The full text of the 'Baseball Stadium Attachment Safety Inspection Manual' can be found on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's website.
Kim Tae-byeong, Director of Technical Safety Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "The NC Park accident is a serious issue directly related to the safety of spectators, and we are taking it very seriously," adding, "Through this meeting, we will promptly conduct a comprehensive inspection of baseball stadiums nationwide to eliminate risk factors in advance."
