[Financial News] Elon Musk's AI "Grok" will be installed on Telegram. From Elon Musk's perspective, who needs to expand Grok users, Telegram seems to be a good marketing partner. Telegram will create an AI usage environment for its users and share the subscription revenue of Grok, making it a win-win deal.
Pavel Durov, Telegram CEO, stated on his X (formerly Twitter) account on the 28th (local time) that "This summer, Telegram users will have access to the best AI technology in the market" and "Elon Musk and I have entered into a 1-year partnership to bring xAI's 'Grok' to our over 1 billion users and integrate it into all Telegram apps."
Durov emphasized, "This partnership strengthens Telegram's financial position," adding, "Telegram will receive $300 million (about 412.6 billion won) in cash and stock from xAI and 50% of the xAI subscription revenue sold through Telegram."
In response to Durov's post on his X, Musk replied, "No contract has been made." To this, Durov responded again, "It's true. We have agreed in principle, only formalities are pending."
The industry views this as a win-win strategy between Telegram, which is under pressure, and xAI. CEO Durov is under investigation in France for allegedly allowing the distribution of child pornography, drug trafficking, organized fraud, and money laundering within Telegram. He was arrested in France last August but was released on bail. xAI's chatbot Grok is also at the center of controversy for providing answers mentioning 'white genocide' and South Africa without being asked by users.
