Costner's Lawyer Says "Absolutely No Basis At All"
[Financial News] Kevin Costner, a famous Hollywood actor and director, has been sued by a stand-in actress for adding an unscripted rape scene during the production of his recent film.
According to entertainment media outlets People and Deadline on the 28th (local time), Devin Ravella, who appeared as a stand-in for the lead actress in the film 'Horizon: An American Legend - Chapter 2', filed a lawsuit for damages against Costner and the film production company. Ravella's side claimed in the complaint that "on May 2, 2023, during the filming directed by Costner, a violent and unscripted rape scene was added, making her a victim."
According to the complaint, on the day of the incident, lead actress Ella Hunt was surprised by the sudden addition of the rape scene by director Costner, refused to film, and left the set. Ravella, who was contracted as a stand-in, was brought in to shoot but was not fully aware of the situation at the time.
Ravella's side wrote in the complaint that "Costner repeatedly attacked while experimenting with various takes of the rape scene." In response, Costner's lawyer refuted, saying "there is absolutely no basis for this," and claimed that "Ravella agreed to the filming after rehearsals that day."
Costner gained great popularity in the 1990s with films like 'Dances with Wolves' (1990), 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves' (1991), and 'The Bodyguard' (1992). He has regained fame as the lead in the American drama series 'Yellowstone', which has been airing since 2018.
However, the first installment of the western four-part series 'Horizon: An American Legend - Chapter 1', which he directed and produced with his own funds, failed at the box office last year and received poor reviews. Furthermore, the sequel 'Horizon: An American Legend - Chapter 2', which was unveiled at last year's Venice International Film Festival, has yet to secure a theatrical release date.
