[Financial News]  A hotel employee in his 40s who used a master key to enter a room and sexually assaulted a female guest who was intoxicated has been sentenced to imprisonment.

According to the legal community on the 28th, the Cheongju District Court Criminal Division 11 (Presiding Judge Tae Ji-young) sentenced Mr. A, who was indicted for quasi-rape by residential intrusion under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, to 7 years in prison.

The court also ordered Mr. A to complete an 80-hour sexual violence treatment program and imposed a 10-year employment restriction at institutions related to children, adolescents, and the disabled.

Mr. A, who was a manager at a hotel located in Boeun, Chungbuk, was brought to trial for sexually assaulting a female guest, Ms. B, in the early morning of November 4 last year.

At that time, Mr. A reportedly used the hotel master key to enter the room where Ms. B was staying.

Investigation results showed that Mr. A confirmed Ms. B was in a drunken state and waited until she entered the room to commit the crime.

Ms. B was reportedly in a state where she could not resist due to intoxication.

Mr. A's lawyer argued in court that "it is true that he entered the room and had intercourse against the victim's will," but also claimed, "it is hard to see that she was in a state of inability to resist based on the victim's statement alone, and the evidence is insufficient," but the court did not accept this.

The court explained the sentencing reason, saying, "The defendant committed the crime despite having a duty to protect guests as a lodging facility employee," and "considering that the defendant did not receive forgiveness from the victim and the victim's family is pleading for severe punishment, the sentence was determined."
