[Financial News] Musical actor Jeon Hojun (43), embroiled in allegations of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, has voluntarily resigned from the play 'The Tonight Show'.
On the 28th, Theater Company Baekui announced on social media (SNS), "A controversy has arisen surrounding an actor who was scheduled to participate in our performance," and added, "The actor expressed his intention to voluntarily resign during this process, and the theater company has decided to respect and accept this."
The theater company also stated, "Theater Company Baekui did not take this matter lightly and has been carefully continuing internal discussions, including verifying the facts," emphasizing that "the exact facts are expected to be clearly revealed through the investigation process by the investigative agency in the future."
They continued, "We value the freedom and expression of art, but we also believe that ethical responsibility and social trust on and off the stage are equally important," adding, "Theater Company Baekui has been striving to establish a more systematic and healthy production system so that all cast and crew can focus on creation in a safe and respectful environment. We will continue to do our best to present a stage that audiences can trust and support."
Previously, Jeon Hojun was scheduled to appear in the play 'The Tonight Show', which opens in July. However, when allegations arose that Jeon Hojun assaulted his ex-lover, the theater company issued a statement saying, "We have decided to temporarily suspend the casting of the actor until the truth of the matter is clearly revealed."
A person identified as Jeon Hojun's lover, A, claimed on SNS on the 24th, "When I went home at 2 a.m. after losing contact with Jeon Hojun, he choked me as soon as I opened the door, grabbed my hair, and slammed me to the floor."
They continued, "While resisting, I hit Jeon Hojun's head, causing him to bleed. Then he turned his eyes and said, 'I won't let this go,' and reported it to the police, resulting in mutual assault because Jeon Hojun was bleeding," they explained.
On the 25th, Jeon Hojun countered on SNS, "The alleged assault situation claimed by A occurred during the process of restraining A, who attempted to trespass into my residence at dawn," and added, "Initially, I tried to calm the situation, but physical confrontation became inevitable, leading to a scuffle, and I also sustained injuries with bleeding on my face and head."
He further stated, "I am aware of the physical condition differences with A. However, the situation was an unavoidable physical confrontation during the process of restraining an intruder at dawn, and it was a legitimate defense response."
On the 27th, he also expressed his frustration, saying, "I never assaulted A," and "A published photos claiming they were injuries inflicted by me, but I am not a man who assaults women."
Jeon Hojun debuted in the musical 'Notre Dame de Paris' in 2007 and has appeared in 'Cats', 'Chicago', 'Notre Dame de Paris', 'Wicked', 'Kinky Boots', and 'The Rocky Horror Show'. He became known to the public through the JTBC audition program 'Phantom Singer 4' aired in 2023.
