[Financial News] Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party presidential candidate, urged Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate, on the 27th to continue facing the ongoing five trials even if he is elected president. In response, Candidate Lee avoided a direct answer, stating that the bills related to his trials are still under discussion in the National Assembly.
Candidate Kim, at the presidential candidate debate hosted by the Central Election Management Committee held that day, said, "Candidate Lee is facing five trials, and he is trying to create a bill to suspend them if he becomes president, and as the Supreme Court overturned the guilty verdict for false information disclosure, he is trying to change the election law to remove the basis for punishment," and demanded, "Even if he becomes president, he must stand trial."
In response, Candidate Lee said, "First of all, the numerous indictments were baseless indictments by the Yoon Seok-yeol regime of the prosecution," and "The general judicial procedures should be followed as determined, and the bills mentioned by Candidate Kim are under discussion in the National Assembly, so do not make assumptions."
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is pushing for bills that affect Candidate Lee's trials, such as the amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act to suspend ongoing trials upon presidential election and the amendment to the Public Official Election Act to delete the act requirement for false information disclosure under the election law. Among these, the amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act is currently on the agenda of the plenary session.
