"Candidate Kim is Suitable to Prevent a Dictatorship State"
Draws a Line on 'Party-to-Party' Alliance and Merger
Complicated Inner Feelings of Pro-Moon Faction, Heated Debates Among Themselves
Advisor Lee, who defined the election of Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, as the emergence of a 'monster dictatorship state', agreed in principle to cooperate in forming a 'joint government' for national integration and promoting constitutional amendments for the launch of the '7th Republic' after a '3-year presidential term'.
Despite Lee Jae-myung maintaining the lead in major polls ahead of the ban on publishing poll results, the official participation of Advisor Lee in the anti-Myung big tent has created conditions for the reemergence of Lee Jae-myung's potential for dictatorship and judicial risks, according to analysis.
Amid such evaluations, the inner feelings of the pro-Moon Jae-in faction, which had been in conflict with the pro-Myung faction while staying silent, are becoming complicated. The 'Forum Saejae', composed of personnel from the Moon Jae-in government, decided to expel former Advisor Lee from the forum on this day, showing a tough stance.
■ Reconfirmation of Lee Jae-myung's Judicial Risks
Advisor Lee held an emergency press conference at the party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on this day, declaring support for Kim Moon-soo, saying, "We have agreed in principle to cooperate with Candidate Kim Moon-soo of the People Power Party to prevent the emergence of a monster dictatorship state and to prepare for a new hope, the 7th Republic."
In addition to forming a joint government upon taking power, Advisor Lee, who shared opinions with Candidate Kim on implementing a 3-year presidential term for simultaneous presidential and general elections in 2028, and promoting constitutional amendments for the launch of the 7th Republic, emphasized, "It is a clear fact that Candidate Kim is the most suitable candidate to prevent the emergence of a monster dictatorship state."
Although he stated that his declaration of support for Candidate Kim is not a 'party-to-party' alliance or merger, nor joining the People Power Party, he made it clear that he would cooperate through the declaration itself. The participation of Advisor Lee, who served as the Democratic Party leader and Prime Minister of the Moon Jae-in government, in the anti-Myung big tent is expected to have a significant effect in reconfirming Lee Jae-myung's 'judicial risks' and potential for 'dictatorship'. Advisor Lee criticized the Democratic Party, saying, "I have repeatedly expressed my hope that the Democratic Party would nominate another candidate without criminal charges, not Lee Jae-myung, and that I would cooperate if they did," adding, "However, the Democratic Party rejected such a natural course." He pointed out that if the Democratic Party, with its large majority, takes control of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches upon Lee Jae-myung's election, the potential for dictatorship could increase. He warned that in the process of dispelling the ongoing trial controversies after Lee Jae-myung's election, the destruction of the rule of law and democracy could occur.
■ Pro-Moon Faction, Heated Debates Among Themselves... Likely to Have Repercussions
The declaration of support for Candidate Kim Moon-soo by Advisor Lee, who was a potential presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, was met with fierce criticism from Democratic Party officials, including the central election committee of the Democratic Party. However, the Saemirae Minjudang side actively countered, saying, "Lee Jae-myung's Democratic Party is not normal by common sense," pointing out that the complex inner feelings of the pro-Moon faction are clearly revealed.
In the Moon Jae-in faction, which had conflicts with the Lee Jae-myung faction, they avoided mentioning Lee Jae-myung in the overwhelming Lee Jae-myung dominance structure. However, as Advisor Lee, who was outside the Democratic Party, joined the anti-Myung big tent and increased the intensity of the offensive, the concerns of Moon Jae-in faction figures are growing.
Kim Kyung-soo, the chief election strategy committee chairman of the Democratic Party's election committee and a key figure in the pro-Moon faction, criticized, "It feels like watching the futile downfall of a politician who shared a difficult era," adding, "It is the result of the obstinacy that only one's own thoughts are right and others' thoughts are all wrong."
Despite the emergence of expressions such as "Politician Lee Nak-yeon is over," and criticism towards Advisor Lee, the Saemirae Minjudang side countered, "We want to ask if they are not ashamed of trying to curry favor with Candidate Lee Jae-myung, who attempts to crush even the separation of powers without any sense of guilt or awareness of the problem."
