[Financial News] Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, announced on the 27th that the pledge to relocate the headquarters of the shipping company HMM to Busan is still valid.
Candidate Lee had previously made this pledge, but there was an opinion within the Central Election Countermeasures Committee to withdraw it. It was stated that neither the government nor HMM had reviewed it, and criticism arose that even if public corporations like the Korea Development Bank hold shares, they should not interfere in decision-making as it is a private company.
Nevertheless, Candidate Lee stated on SNS that "During the last Busan campaign, I promised to relocate HMM's headquarters to Busan. This promise is still valid and will be kept in the future," adding, "HMM is a private company, but it is a subsidiary of a public corporation owned by the people. If the people want it, the relocation to Busan is entirely possible."
