First Hearing on June 27
[Financial News] A lawsuit claiming damages against former President Yoon Suk-yeol for mental damage caused by the 12·3 Martial Law incident will officially begin next month.
According to the legal community on the 27th, Lee Seong-bok, a chief judge of the Seoul Central District Court's Civil Division 2, has set the first hearing date for a damages lawsuit claiming 10 million won against former President Yoon for his alleged acts of rebellion on June 27 at 3:20 PM.
This group, consisting of 105 adults aged 19 and over, filed a lawsuit claiming 100,000 won per person, totaling 10 million won, against former President Yoon. The plaintiff's representatives include Lee Geum-gyu, a lawyer who represented the National Assembly during the impeachment trial of former President Yoon.
They explained the purpose of the lawsuit through a recruitment post, stating that it aims to sound a social alarm by claiming damages for the mental suffering of citizens caused by the president's irresponsible declaration of martial law.
Initially, the court decided on public notification delivery in April after the defendant's side refused to accept the lawsuit documents twice, citing 'absence of recipient.' Public notification delivery is a procedure where the court posts documents for a certain period and considers them delivered if the address cannot be known or the receipt is refused.
The court initially set the first hearing date for May 16 with public notification delivery, but later canceled the existing schedule to designate the date after serving the complaint. Subsequently, the court sent a new hearing notice to former President Yoon and his legal representatives, and the trial schedule was confirmed when the lawyer received it the previous day.
As a result, former President Yoon is expected to respond simultaneously to both the criminal trial for charges such as being the head of the rebellion and the civil lawsuit starting in June.
