[Financial News] With only 5 months left until the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held in Gyeongju at the end of October to early November, invitations to world leaders have not yet been sent. Invitations must be sent to all leaders of the 21 APEC member countries except Korea.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 27th, the next president, who will take office after the June 3rd election, must urgently send invitations to the leaders of each country attending the APEC Summit immediately after taking office. Invitations to the leaders of each country for the APEC Summit are sent in the name of the head of state of the host country, who serves as the chair. If accepted, a meeting between Donald Trump, the President of the United States, and Xi Jinping, the President of China, who are in a "tariff war," is expected to take place. A Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said, "Invitations have not yet been sent to the leaders of each country and will be sent in the name of the next president of the next government."
It seems that the fact that a new president is expected to be elected soon after the impeachment of former President Yoon Seok-yeol has had a significant impact on the sending of invitations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, however, stated that the timing of sending invitations to leaders is not significantly delayed. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, invitations to leaders for the APEC Summit are usually sent about 4 to 5 months before the summit is held. The APEC Summit is held in October and November, and invitations to leaders are often sent in May and September.
On the other hand, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry has reportedly already sent invitations to over 100 global business leaders. The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the organizing body of the APEC CEO Summit, and has sent official invitations in the name of Choi Tae-won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to global business leaders, including CEOs of companies like NVIDIA, Intel, and Google.
